So this is my first review. I chose to review something i have been using for awhile now and something that i have on my front page. Hum Nutrition’s Raw Beauty Green Superfood Powder.
*Just a note: all of my reviews are my own independent reviews, i was not asked or paid to review any products.
I have the Mint Chocolate Chip flavor, but they also have three other flavors: Coconut & Pineapple Tropical, Tahitian Vanilla & Berry, and Gingersnap. I have never tried these other flavors so i cannot comment on the taste but i can tell you the mint chocolate chip tastes like mint chocolate chip. The mint flavor is very subtle, but that is what i like about it: its not mint with a little chocolate, its chocolate with a little mint. The label says you can put this powder in just about anything but i think this flavor tastes best in milk. I put mine in Fairlife 2% milk (a little more protein than regular milk) and shake it up and it tastes like a chocolate mint shake. I love that this has greens in it and doesn’t taste like dirt. There’s a reason most greens powders tell you to mix it into apple juice or some other strong flavored juice. I don’t know how they did it, but i am really happy to finally have a greens powder that i actually like the taste of.
Even more important than the taste (which is pretty important) is all the good stuff in it. I will start off by saying, I am not a nutritionist or a dietitian or anything of that sort. I am a person who reads labels and tries to be aware of what is in my food and what i am putting in my body. And if you read some of my other posts you will know that i am also a person who loves junk food, so i attempt to balance that a little by getting healthy stuff like this.
To see the ingredients, head over to their website, http://www.humnutrition.com. There is so much stuff in here, im not even going to go into it all, but i can tell you its pretty much all really good-for-you stuff. Greens, probiotics, adaptogens, antioxidants, all good. The only thing on this ingredients list that is bad (to me) is stevia. You either like stevia or you abosutely hate it; i’ve never seen an in-between. Some people argue stevia is just as bad for you as artificial sweeteners while others argue that it is natural and therefore ok to eat. I’ve never done my research on it as i hate the taste and just try to stay away from it altogether so i don’t have an opinion on it. However, as someone who hates stevia and can always taste it in everything, i will tell you i cant taste it in this at all. So no matter what side of the fence you’re on, this product caters to all. If you hate the taste of stevia its ok because you cant taste it; if you think stevia is bad for you its still ok because there is such a small amount in there it is negligible; and if you like stevia then obviously no problems there.
So i have covered taste and nutrition, the other important factor is mixability (spell check is telling me this is not a word; it is now). This powder mixes very well as long as you shake it or blend it in a blender; stirring not so much. Shaking and blending = smooth, no chunks, stirring = a few small chunks. Just like with other greens powders, i find it tends to settle a little bit if left to sit (totally normal) but i just shake it or swirl it around a little and its fine. Although mine rarely has a chance to settle, its pretty yummy, so i usually gulp the whole thing down pretty fast.
This is recommended as a daily supplement, but because i put it in milk i don’t drink it everyday as i try to limit my dairy intake and am not a fan of non-dairy milks. The front of the label says it “helps boost energy, radiant skin, and metabolism”. I like it because i do feel a little better since i started drinking it so i would say yes to the energy part but I have always had a fast metabolism so i dont think it really makes a difference for me in that department. I think this powder is a great option if you feel like you need a little boost or just want to get some more good stuff into your diet. You can obviously get this at humnutrition.com but it is available other places; i get mine from Birchbox.com, and i know Sephora also sells it. It is available in the jar like i have it or they also sell individual “on-the-go” packets that i think come in boxes of 15.
If you try it, let me know what you think! Especially if you try one of the other flavors!
I am part of the generation that made ADD a thing and it shows. My thoughts are random and I am constantly squirreling, but that's what keeps things interesting, right?
