Just gonna ease back into posting with a nice, easy update post. Instead of going back and updating each review, i'm gonna put them all in one spot. I figure more people will actually see the updates this way.
Let's start with one of the first things i reviewed: Treat Beauty. This lip balm is still one of my favorite things. The flavors/scents are amazing. I have only had one that i didn't like and that was pumpkin spice. Some of my favorites are Marshmallow Cream, Birthday Cake, Mint and Matcha, and Oatmeal Cream Pie. The size is both a pro and a con (more pro). I love that they are huge and last forever, however, it makes it harder for me to justify buying new flavors when they come out because i already have so many. I mean, i still buy them, but i feel a little bad. I have reviewed Treat a few times. If you want to see the original reviews, go here and here. They have a healing balm that looks like something i may want to try as my skin is acting up right now. I have tried the Birthday Cake hand cream and the Butter Your Muffin body cream. Both were good, but the Birthday Cake, while delicious smelling, was a little too strong for me. Next up, Too Faced. I really like this brand, even though some of the products were misses for me. I reviewed the It's Bananas Setting Powder and the Hangover Primer. Original review here. They now have a whole line of Hangover facial care. While there were a lot of things I liked about the primer, ultimately, my skin didn't like it and would break out when i used it. The setting powder i still use, but probably will not buy it again. It smells great and does an OK job, but i will probably try something else when it is gone. My favorite Too Faced products? The Peaches and Cream collection eye palettes, all of them, and the Peaches and Cream collection foundation and primer. Also a fan of the Born This Way concealer. Oh, also the Peach Puff lipstick. The whole Peach collection is pretty great honestly. One product i was obsessed with was the Purlisse Orange Creamsicle Body Butter. It was originally offered in a gift set of travel size items. I was super excited when i saw them offer the body butter in a full size, but so super sad and disappointed when i got it and the smell was different. This was a collab with Kandee Johnson, who, while i don't know her personally, seems like the sweetest and nicest person on the planet. Seriously, everyone go follow her on Instagram (@kandeejohnson) right now. Anyway, i really was really sad about the lotion scent changing. I think that is all the updates i have. I did not update all of the reviews i did, so go read those if you have not already, there are some really good products in there. I'm currently trying out some new products so look for those reviews in a few weeks!

It has definitely been awhile since my last post. Nothing new there. My last post was about me preparing for a race I signed up for. Well the pandemic happened and my race got cancelled just a few days before it happened. It was changed into a virtual race, which means you run the same distance on your own and upload your results to a website. Not as fun. I was a few seconds short of my 10 minute/mile goal, and while i was super disappointed in myself, i'm still here. For now.
I also started a new job at the same time. If i was scheduled to start a week later i would not have had a job (yay pandemic) so i got really lucky there. The new job has been going well. The training process is slow but i'm getting through it as fast as i can. Being new at a company during these times gives a very uncertain feeling so i'm trying to make myself as useful as i can, as fast as i can. You'd think, with having extra time on my hands because of everything going on, tat i would be productive and get stuff done, or, i dont know, pay more attention to writing and posting here. All of those things have definitely been on my mind while i sit on the couch and do nothing instead. I have been thinking about what to post. I thought about doing an update post for all of the reviews i have done so far and that idea is in the lead. I just recently ordered from Curology after seeing the ad five million times on Instagram and Facebook, so I will definitely give my opinion on that in a month or two after i have tried it. I also have been working on an idea for a fitness-related post in my head for awhile. I guess i should start writing some notes on paper and put it together. The original idea was exercises you can do during the day at work. What is interesting for me about this idea is that it is definitely evolving as my workplace has changed and the exercises that would have worked at my previous job will not necessarily work at my current job. So definitely finding exercises that work in all different work environments will be a challenge. My idea is not to stop what your doing at work and exercise (ain't nobody got time for that), but to find little things you can do throughout your day that add up. And also things you can do that are not obvious to everyone around you. Now if i could only finish one of these ideas and post it. My run is just 4 weeks away now. I can not seem to break through to my goal. I'm stuck at about 5 mins short of my goal. It sounds like nothing but I can't get past it. So i'm pretty frustrated about that. I'm going to keep trying but i also am going to start preparing myself mentally for if i fail. As a type A, failure is not something i take well, so preparations must be made.
That is not all though. I am stepping into more new territory. A new job. Which is both exciting and terrifying. Terrifying because i have to start at the bottom and work my way up again. But a change in that department was necessary. I'm expecting the job to be rough at first but i think it could pan out to something good in the future, so i'll make the sacrifice for now. As for my old job, there are a lot of people/things i will miss, but like i just said a change was definitely necessary. There have been a lot of changes already this year. Hopefully i have some good things to report at the end of the year. Hopefully there will be some good things in this future i keep planning for. Welcome to my first post of the year. It only took me 2 1/2 weeks to do it. Today i'm talking about coffee because i've been a little obsessed lately and i've tried a bunch so i thought i'd review the ones i have tried. First, a quick progress update on my running situation. I'm down to a 10.5-11 minute mile pace. I'm currently running about 3 miles at a time and will start doing 4 soon since my race is only 8 weeks away. I'm also going to start running outside to get a more accurate gauge on my time. Now on to the coffee.
I have recently started trying to make coffee in the morning instead of stopping at the coffee shop. It is cheaper and actually healthier since i know there is no added sugar, use oatmilk instead of dairy, and add collagen powder to my coffee at home. I use a single-cup Keurig to make my coffee, as i only need to make one cup at a time. I wanted to do this review post beause it can be hard to find good tasting k-cups sometimes. I find that most of the flavored ones have a yucky artificial sweetener type aftertaste. I prefer a medium to dark roast. Caribou dark roasts are always a solid choice. Mahogany blend is my favorite. A very close second is Paul Newman's Special Blend. This is a medium roast but just as great as a dark roast. Dutch Bros., while always better when you go there (if you're lucky enough to have them in your area), also makes a pretty good k-cup coffee. Now the flavors. I have so far only found one company that makes decent flavored k-cups. Bones Coffee Co. So far, i have tried Irish Cream, Frankenbones, and Peanut Butter and Jelly. I just received Highland Grog and will add my opinion on that after i have tried it. Irish cream and Peanut Butter and Jelly are obvious and taste like the names suggest. Peanut Butter and Jelly is a little more jelly than peanut butter and i would prefer it the other way around. Frankenbones is supposed to be chocolate hazelnut but i do not taste any chocolate; only hazelnut. Irish cream is my favorite of the 3 but i do like all of them. The actual coffee is good quality and the flavors are good with no weird aftertaste. You can purchase directly from them or through Amazon, though i don't think all of the flavors are available through Amazon. So that's it, nothing super long, keeping it simple. Edit: Highland Grog is good as well. It is similar, in my opinion, to the Irish Cream. This is kind of one of those "I don't know who needs to hear this but..." type of posts. It's going to be kind of long and all over the place but stick with me, i swear it'll be worth it at the end. In my last post I talked about how I signed up for a fun run. Well today i decided its time to start training for it. Its only 4 miles and most people wouldn't need to train for that, but i haven't worked out in close to a year, so....yea.
A little background information before i continue. I am about 5'9, 130 lbs. If you saw me walking on the street you'd probly think i was decently healthy and "in shape". I probably look thin to "average" to most people. Today i got on the elliptical and it took me over 16 minutes to do a mile. One mile. And that one mile was really tough. I am in the worst shape i have ever been in. I'm not even old yet, so I can't even use that excuse. There is no excuse. I have just been really fucking lazy for a long time. Stress and fatigue issues have really kicked my butt for the last year or so and I let them. So here are the reasons I am telling this story. Number one, looks can be deceiving. We see healthy and "in shape" people and then feel bad about ourselves because we are not as healthy and in shape as them. But just because they look it doesn't mean they are. I am so far from healthy or "in shape" right now but you wouldn't know it just looking at me. I am so guilty of doing this all. the. time. It is one of the reasons i stopped going to the gym and just bought an elliptical for my house instead. I would get so depressed comparing myself to everyone else there. That girl can lift more than me. That girl can run for longer on the treadmill than me. All these people are in better shape than me. So I am just telling you, if you do this, first, you're not the only one and second, stop it. Because that girl at the store that you think is so much healthier and in shape than you, might not be. She could be me, sitting on the couch eating cheeseburgers all day, and that trip to the store is the most exercise she gets. She might be tossing spinach and kale in her cart right now, but in a few minutes she'll be in the potato chip aisle tossing 3 kinds of Doritos in her cart. Number two reason for all this is accountability and progress. Today my fitness sucks. Now lets see how much i can improve it over the next three months before my run. Today: sucks. Race day: ?. |
